Hvar is a town in Croatia, located on the island of the same name. This town, too, can boast a rich history and cultural heritage, which is why it is today one of the more important tourist destinations in Croatia.
It lies in a bay on the south-western side of the island of Hvar. The town of Hvar faces south, unlike the neighbouring municipalities Stari Grad and Jelsa, which look towards the west and north. South of the town harbour lie the Pakleni islands.

Hvar is special for its large number of sunny days and its pleasant climate, which favours tourism and its further development.

Thanks to the mild climate and pleasant summer days, Hvar hosts many guests from all over the world. Scientists and travellers with a purpose visit it, people who love the natural splendour of Mediterranean characteristics. A rich tradition and nightlife are additional reasons to come, which are enjoyed mostly by young people but also by those who feel young regardless of their age. Hvar is today considered one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world.

Separation from the coast can sometimes be a handicap, but that is certainly not the case with the island we are writing about at the moment. Here, separation means protection from factory chimneys, road congestion and similar things that unfortunately come with civilisation. Instead, the islanders see their wealth in the form of wide lavender fields, ancient olive trees and many vineyards.

Welcome to Hvar

If you are lucky, you will visit this beautiful town at least once in your life. When your hosts welcome you, your journey into something beautiful and unrepeatable begins there. This is an ancient town of very rich history. Many say that Hvar reminds them of a town from a fairy tale, and that it is adorned with architecture, beautiful nature and a mild climate.

It is therefore no surprise to us that large numbers of guests come every year. The offer on the island is fantastic, and the accommodation is just what it should be. Accommodation capacities keep pace with demand, and we can say that the offer is truly at a good level. The hospitality of the hosts conveys Mediterranean warmth, which is why Hvar is an ideal place for a holiday for groups, couples and families. Besides luxury hotels, lavish villas and a couple of campsites on the island, Hvar offers a large number of apartments for rent.

Once you have booked, reached the date and arrived on Hvar, a fairy-tale story begins. In the following text we would like to describe the town of Hvar, and also the island on which it stands.

The pleasant climate will make the stay of our guests easier. The strong daytime sun will serve well for getting a tan, but the gentle maestral breeze will cool you down enough that the day is not unbearable. Summers on Hvar are mostly long and warm, while winter is mild and short. It is a climate that suits the tourist season on the Adriatic best.

A brief history of Hvar

The history of Hvar has been written for thousands of years, and its wealth and content are the result of the island's favourable position, and ultimately of the town built on it. From the very beginnings of sailing, the island of Hvar has lain at the centre of the longitudinal and transverse sailing routes across the Adriatic. The harbour of this town, protected by small islands and naturally excellently shaped, offered ships a safe refuge from deadly winds.

Sights you can visit on Hvar

Just a few of the sights you can visit if you are on the island are the cathedral dedicated to St Stephen I, the Museum of Hvar Heritage, the Bartučević House, the Hvar Theatre, the Napoleon Fortress and a few others which we will not mention now.

Beaches on Hvar

The island of Hvar is known for its beautiful beaches, which are mostly pebbly, set in coves and surrounded by pine forests. There are also several sandy beaches on the island, but they are mostly located in the north of the island. Rather than wasting too many words on the beaches on Hvar, it is best to look at them all yourselves, we will mention Dubavica beach. To reach Dubavica beach, you must leave your car on the road and walk down a few hundred metres to Dubavica cove, which will take your breath away with its beauty. There are not many crowds on the beach because of its harder access, which is a great advantage. On the beach there is a summer residence from the 17th century as well as several stranded little boats, which gives a special experience to all guests. Hvar Plaža DubavicaBeach Dubavica Hvar

Nautical tourism on Hvar

The position of the island and its special coastline are an ideal combination for nautical tourism. This form of tourism is especially popular on the island, and the islanders invest in it in particular. There are currently several anchorages, namely the anchorage in Hvar harbour and the ACI marina Palmižana on the Pakleni islands. While you are moored in the town harbour, you will certainly enjoy the day and night atmosphere of the town. If, however, you choose the ACI marina, the Pakleni islands will take care that your holiday leaves the best impression.

What we recommend you visit on Hvar

If you are just planning to go to Hvar and do not know what awaits you, in a few sentences we will recommend how to spend your stay so that it stays in good memory.

You can have a special experience if you stroll along the narrow stone lanes of Hvar. In the morning, to start the day, stroll to the town waterfront and have your first morning coffee. Besides enjoying excellent coffee, you will enjoy the view of the beautiful waterfront even more. The rising sun gives special reflected colours on the surface of the sea, and the stirring of boats completes the sounds that are specific to islands. When you feel like a swim, and you can afford it, we recommend that you visit the Pakleni islands. Many will confirm that swimming here is the best. The Hvar beaches are not far behind, so we leave the choice to you.

The Hvar waterfront will also come in handy for evening walks. Once again the sun will play during the day and offer you beautiful spectra of warm colours. The Hvar waterfront turns into a promenade for many passers-by. In the evening Hvar turns into a town with modern cafés, restaurants and cocktail bars. Expensive yachts fill the moorings, and their owners enjoy the nearby restaurants and the delicacies of local cooks. For a good photograph at sea, the waterfront is an excellent choice. Expensive yachts are the best backdrop for photographs from your summer holiday.
