Many parents have a hard time finding the ideal beach to take their youngest family members to the seaside. To make a holiday with children as pleasant and carefree as possible, full of fun and laughter, we have made the effort to pick out just a few beaches for you.
Note: see all beaches for children in Croatia with photos and location.

When we take small children on holiday, we have the happy worry of pleasing them, of making sure the holiday passes for the children in joy and all-day fun.

The criteria by which we will pick out the loveliest beaches for you and your little ones are:

We look for a beach with a gentle entry into the sea

We make sure there is enough shallow water along the shore

Our first choice is sandy or pebble beaches

We look for a beach with clean sea, and without sea urchins along the shore

A carefree holiday for parents and children

When we look for a beach we can go to with children, besides the above-mentioned criteria, we certainly make sure the beach has showers, changing cabins and some kind of sporting or entertainment content. We need to make the effort to make the holiday fun for the children too, since that way the parents will also be able to relax to the fullest and enjoy themselves.

This time too, just as before, we will list the beaches in no particular order. There is no best or slightly better one. In fact, each of you will choose for yourself the beach that suits you best. We will describe a few of them, and you will see which beach you will visit next season. May the planning of your trip be as simple, fun and in a way instructive as possible.

First we will mention Slatina beach

This beach is located in the village of Martinšćica, on the island of Cres, within the Slatina campsite. Let us mention right away that this beach is open to pets, so we hope that will not bother you. In fact, the Slatina campsite takes part in the “Camping with a Dog” project, which is why it is a favourite among guests who bring their pets on holiday. Special zones for swimming with dogs are marked on the beach, as well as special showers for them.

Slatina beach is a proud holder of the Blue Flag. That means it is very well equipped, and has a clean sea as well as a clean overall environment. Besides everything already mentioned, on the beach you also have a lifeguard service, whose members keep a watchful eye on the sea and the bathers all day long. Safety is at a high level, which especially suits parents, who can relax while their children play nearby.

To make sure the children get the most out of their holiday, there are playgrounds for various sports, a small play park, and the possibility of renting a pedal boat.

Next to the beach there is a restaurant with tasty dishes, as well as a shop where you can buy basic supplies.

For several years running now, Slatina campsite has ranked among the best campsites in Croatia. If you enjoy camping, have children, even a dog, feel free to come and visit us. Spend your holiday amid the greenery of the island of Cres, one of the two largest islands in the Adriatic. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, beneath the green needles of the pine forest, in a beautiful setting in front of which lies the blue of the Adriatic. The view that opens up towards the sea is a special sight, beautiful and relaxing. It blends perfectly into the inland idyll, from which you watch it all while relaxing in the natural shade.

Dražica Beach – Biograd na Moru

Plaža Dražica (photos and location) is the main town beach, located on the south-eastern side of Biograd na Moru. It is quite long – along the shore it stretches from the Adriatik hotel all the way to Soline beach. Along the entire length of the beach, a shaded promenade runs, lined by catering establishments and stalls selling souvenirs and various beach and sea accessories.

The promenade is for the most part lit and suitable for easy, carefree evening walks. It is also suitable for cycling or rollerblading, which the youngest especially love.

Dražica beach has a gentle entrance into the sea and has for several years running now been a winner of the Blue Flag.

It is especially suitable for coming with children because it has various attractive and entertaining features. We should mention the seawater pool, which is open to children and has no admission charge. There is also a slide on the beach, where children know how to spend hours and hours playing.

There is something on offer on our beach for adults too. Right next to the slide there is a diving club, where you can come and book a diving course. Give it a try if you feel like it. Otherwise, rest on the beach and let the kids have fun close by. Besides the pool and the slide, there are also various sports courts, so fun is guaranteed.

Dražica is a well-equipped beach. On the beach you have changing cabins and showers, and there is also a first-aid service, which certainly comes in handy for parents keeping an eye on their little ones.

To cut the story short and put it in a few short sentences: the beach is suitable for children thanks to its fine gravel and gentle entry into the sea. Besides that, along the beach there is a variety of entertaining content that will delight all the kids. Playing in the pool, going down the slide and riding little cars are real fun that will last all day. Meanwhile, parents can enjoy their holiday in whichever way they like. Rent a sun lounger, borrow a book and enjoy the daytime sun. If it gets too hot, cool off in the shallows, or take shelter under a parasol.

Vela Pržina – A Beach on the Island of Korčula

This beach is located only 6 kilometres from the town of Korčula, hidden in a cove and strewn with fine sand. Bathed by shallow and clean sea, the beach Vela Pržina is ideal for children’s play. It is located in the small town of Lumbarda, which is why it is suitable for a full-day stay. You will not be missing anything here. If you decide to come here with children, everyone is sure to enjoy it.

Next to the beach there are restaurants and cafés, which provide an excellent shelter from strong sun, but which children will enjoy too. There is entertaining content for them as well, to mention just the inevitable games in the sand, the chance to buy ice cream and various treats for children, as well as a beach-volleyball court. Besides that, the youngest guests can enjoy riding a banana boat, or sailing accompanied by an adult.

This is a rather popular bathing spot, and crowds are nothing unusual. We hope that will not bother you, and if you would like a quieter place, look for another beach from this short list.

Take the children to the island of Krk to enjoy our beach

We are proud of the main town plažu u Baškoj. It is called Vela plaža, and it is graced by fine gravel and, of course, a clean and pleasantly warm sea. The beach stretches along the shore for up to 2 kilometres, is very spacious and is a favourite bathing spot in this part of the island. Thanks to its shallows and gentle entry into the sea, Vela plaža is ideal for outings with children.

If you have been longing for the sea, are travelling with your family and have small children, this beach could be your choice. On the beach you can rent parasols, sun loungers and various sports accessories. The water slide is especially dear to the youngest guests. While the parents lie back in the sun, the children will find fun on the slide. Children’s play and fun will also bring satisfaction to the parents, which is why the holiday will be complete for every family member.

Slightly older kids also have pedal boats available to rent, or surfboards.

The lifeguard service takes care of safety on the beach. They are there for a reason, so that you can enjoy your holiday without fear or worry.

Thanks to its good facilities, this beach too has the Blue Flag, which guarantees both the quality of the offer and the cleanliness of the sea. Here every guest will find something for themselves. Parents can enjoy themselves under the sun or in the shade of the nearby cafés. Children will find their fun on the mentioned slide, or perhaps in some sporting contest. Here too you can play picigin, regardless of the fact that the beach is pebbly.

Trstenica on Pelješac

On the southern side of the Pelješac peninsula lies hidden plaža Trstenica. It is located near Orebić, and is one of the better-known beaches in this part of our coast. Right next to the beach there is a campsite of the same name, from which most of the beach’s guests come.

It is quite long and rather narrow. The outer part of the beach has a pebbly base, while the inner part is covered in fine sand. On our beach you can rent sun loungers or a parasol, or take shelter in the natural shade if there is room. Next to the campsite there are stalls with various accessories for fun in the water. You can rent them for yourself or the younger members of the family, so they have fun while you enjoy the daytime sun.

It suits children because the ground in the shallows is made of sand. This is ideal for the youngest, so they can play and leave you in peace. We already mentioned that part of the beach has natural shade. That might be enough for all guests, but if needed you can rent a parasol. Nearby shops will offer everything you need for a relaxing and fun time.

might just be the best for children’s play and fun

This is one of the larger sandy beaches. It is located in the Nin Lagoon, near Zadar, and is really very popular. Still, there are no big crowds on the beach, since it is spacious and notable for shallows that extend tens of metres from the shore. The beach has so much shallow water that small islets of sandy surface appear in that area. If you have come here with children, believe us, they will have fun and will not want to leave the beach.

Next to the beach there is a forest of pine trees, among which there is enough shade for everyone. If you feel like resting, whether in the sun or in the shade, simply do so, and let the children play in the sand.

Kraljičina plaža is 3 kilometres long, very beautiful and clean. A campsite is also located next to it, which is especially good if you decide to travel by camper van.

It is certainly worth mentioning that Kraljičina plaža has, according to the American Travel Channel, been included among the most beautiful beaches in the world.

This beach made it onto our list because of the shallow sea and fine sand. Of course, on the beach you can play beach volleyball, badminton or some other game of your choice. In any case, the kids will enjoy themselves here and will certainly not be bored. You can rent pedal boats, or let them go on the trampoline. Once the children are happy and occupied with play, the parents will find a way to relax too.

The catering offer is rich; you can choose from a beach bar, fast food and a fruit stand. There is a restaurant with tasty dishes, and a café with a large selection of refreshing drinks. Nearby you have a shop with various beach equipment and gear for enjoying the sea. Buy yourself some fins or a diving mask. Enjoy yourself too, so the experience is complete.

For a holiday with children, head to Spiaza beach

Spiaza beach is located on the island of Susak. It is worth mentioning that Susak is the most remote island in the Adriatic, and because of its sandy base it is often called the sandy island. It is no surprise, then, that it has such a large number of sandy beaches. Still, Spiaza beach stands out as an ideal place for a holiday with children.

Spiaza is the largest bay on the island, where the beach of the same name is found. Shallow water, soft sand and the proximity of the small village make this beach an ideal place for children’s fun and play. The proximity of the village makes the beach very accessible, especially because of the shops nearby.

On the beach you can rent a parasol, sun loungers, or even a pedal boat for fun in the shallow sea. Those who are a bit more active can have fun playing beach volleyball or picigin.

When you have had enough of sunbathing and swimming, you are welcome to visit one of the nearby restaurants and enjoy the island’s specialities. Besides restaurants, you also have a couple of cafés to choose from, which are excellently furnished and equipped. Pick your favourite refreshing drink and enjoy it on the terrace with a view towards the sea.

The naturist way of holidaying is strictly forbidden on this beach. That is another of the positive things if you are coming with small children. There really is a great deal of sand on the beach, which will keep the children occupied, and give you the freedom to enjoy the summer sun.

We already mentioned that the beach is very accessible, which is also why it is one of the most visited on the island. A large number of guests stay here, so be prepared for that and do not expect great peace and quiet. After all, who goes on holiday with children and expects silence and calm? Nobody!.

Come to Spiaza beach and, “armed” with patience, spend unforgettable moments. The children will certainly find the stay fun, so there is no reason it should not be fun for you too.

To describe the beach in a few short sentences: the beach is sandy, with a very shallow sea along the shore. It suits children and people who swim poorly or not at all. Because of the larger number of guests on this beach, you will not have the kind of peace found on some more remote beaches. Spiaza beach is located in an inhabited area, which is why it has such a large number of guests.

Paradise Beach on the Island of Rab

In the village of Lopar, on the island of Rab, lies Rajska plaža. It is ideal for families with children, especially because it is made of fine sand and has shallow, pleasantly warm sea along the shore. The beach is 12 kilometres from the town of Rab, and is very popular. It is more than a kilometre long, and excellently equipped.

On the beach you have changing cabins, showers and a very varied tourist offer. We should mention the large number of restaurants and bars, and especially highlight the cycling paths where you can spend the morning hours, or the evening when the sun sets. The food on offer in the restaurants is phenomenal. Mostly these are home-made specialities that guests truly enjoy. In the bars you can find a refreshing drink to suit everyone’s taste. Sit down at one of them and enjoy yourself with your family.

We should also mention that Rajska plaža was awarded the Blue Flag back in 2013, and has been its proud holder ever since. That is confirmation of how well kept and equipped the beach is, as well as of the natural preservation of the area.

Today this beach is considered the largest and most popular beach in Lopar. It is nearly 2 kilometres long, which is more than enough space for such a varied tourist offer.

Rajska plaža has also made it onto some world Top lists. In fact, in one piece about tourist destinations, Rajska plaža made CNN’s list of the Top 100 beaches in the world.

If you visit our beach you can enjoy swimming and sunbathing, of course, but also beach volleyball, going down the slide or parasailing. Part of the beach is also open to pets. If you have a dog, bring it along to enjoy itself with you.

It is ideal for families with children because of its sandy base and very shallow sea along the shore. Near the beach there is a sports centre with various kinds of pitches and sports courts, and there is also a water slide that children especially adore. Lifeguards keep a watchful eye on the beach throughout the day and look after your safety. Enjoy yourself and relax completely. Visit us and spend an unforgettable summer on the island of Rab.

Sakarun Sandy Beach on Dugi Otok

This beautiful sandy beach is located near the small village of Verunić, on Dugi Otok. It is one of the best-known beaches in Zadar County, and is therefore also very well visited. We can describe the beach as a natural cove adorned with fine white sand. The beach is touched by a clean and pleasantly warm sea. The sea floor along the beach is shallow and suitable for children and adults who swim poorly. Children will especially enjoy themselves here, leaving enough room for adults to rest. The view from the beach is enchanting – literally, as the photograph we have included will attest.

If you decide to come to Dugi Otok and visit Sakarun beach, believe us, you have decided well.

The beach is surrounded by a pine forest that provides the necessary natural shade in summer. It is about 800 metres long, and accommodates a fair number of guests. There are no big crowds here, but you will not be alone either. There is enough room both for relaxing and for children’s play.

On the beach there are two catering establishments with a varied offer of food and drink. Find tasty bites for yourself, or choose a drink of your liking. The choice is really large, both for adults and for the youngest.

Children will enjoy the shallows, while parents can lie back carefree under the summer sun. As a special feature on the beach we would particularly like to highlight the little train, which takes guests to the nearby village of Božava, and back to the beach.

The colour of the sea, the fine white sand and the strong sun create wondrous effects at this beach, which, mixed with the green colours of the pine forest, form an enchanting impression of some Caribbean beach. That was the impression gained by the respected author Jane Foster, who described it in her text dedicated to this very beach. The article was published on The Telegraph portal, where it picked up excellent reviews and reader comments. That was additional promotion for the beach and the whole island, honestly written and later confirmed by many guests – after they came and saw the beauty of Sakarun beach for themselves.

Zaton Beach – Zadar

This long, sandy beach abounds in entertaining content, sports facilities and all kinds of catering establishments. It is very well equipped and will be ready to welcome every guest.

For many years now, Zaton beach has been a favourite destination for many parents. There is good reason for that, so we will write a few sentences in that direction below. Besides its shallow sea and pine forest, Zaton beach offers a large number of activities for parents and for children.

It is located right next to Zadar, but we should certainly mention that there is an admission charge for the beach.

This beach is more than a kilometre long, so it can offer, and does offer, a truly varied range of content.

Zaton beach is a proud holder of the Blue Flag, which confirms the quality of service and the cleanliness of the sea. The shallow sea and the sand-and-gravel base are an excellent combination for families with children. There is also room for other guests, especially physically active people who take part in sports.

Sports lovers can really enjoy themselves thanks to the large number of sports courts. Feel free to show off your skills playing beach volleyball, tennis or some other sport. You can go for a ride on a jet ski, play picigin in the shallows or perhaps badminton. There is also an aqua park, an iceberg climbing structure and much more content, so let us not list it all now.

Right behind the beach there is a pine forest, which will provide enough shade for all the guests. If the sun becomes unbearable, feel free to take shelter in the forest or visit one of the cafés, or perhaps a restaurant. The cafés offer a variety of drinks, which will provide the refreshment you need, while the restaurants can boast various Dalmatian specialities.

To finish, let us also point this out: Zaton beach has a specially arranged access for people with disabilities.

Zlatni rat – The Most Famous Beach on Our Coast

Zlatni rat is perhaps the most famous beach on the Adriatic. Despite such popularity, parents might not at first think it suitable for a holiday with small children. We will explain why it is on our list, and how you can enjoy this beautiful beach.

It is located in Bol, on the southern coast of the island of Brač. Because of its unusual shape, beauty and clean sea, the beach is something of a symbol of Croatian tourism. The beach is recognisable by its long spit, which stretches out towards the sea and changes shape depending on the wind and the sea currents. It is world-famous, and has been included among the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Zlatni rat is a pebble beach, more suited to sporty types who enjoy surfing or kitesurfing. Behind it lies a pine forest in which catering establishments are located. There you can refresh yourself with a drink of your choice, or eat some Dalmatian speciality from the menu.

Besides being well suited to young couples, sporty types and people who enjoy having fun, Zlatni rat beach is also suitable for families with small children. On the beach there is plenty of entertaining content for the youngest guests. Children can have fun in a specially equipped children’s playground. The guests’ safety is looked after by a lifeguard service present all day throughout the tourist season.

If you feel like an evening walk, holding the hands of the youngest family members, make use of the excellently maintained, long promenade along the beach. The promenade stretches all the way to Bol, and the walk can take a pleasant 25 minutes in one direction.

Zlatni rat offers a great deal more for the little ones. Your kids can enjoy a varied range of entertainment and recreational content. Let them have fun with a water buggy, pedal boats, parasailing flights behind a speedboat, or a ride on a banana boat. There are also trampolines, bike rental and similar content.

Dugi rat in Brela

Another beach of world renown. Dugi rat is a beach located in Brela, and it gained its worldwide fame thanks to its beauty, clean sea and natural surroundings. It is compared to beaches that can otherwise only be found on the Hawaiian Islands. If you want to enjoy such an atmosphere, in nature, be sure to visit this beach. It suits all ages, including the youngest. This is an open invitation to all parents looking for the best beach for themselves and their youngest family members.

This is the best-known beach of the Makarska Riviera, but it has also been heard of much further afield. It is certainly worth mentioning that this beach was declared the most beautiful beach in Europe by Forbes magazine. That happened back in 2004, and the beach has only been improving ever since.

It is located on a headland covered in pine forest. The beach is made of pebbles and has a gentle entry into the sea. The colours of the sea have crystal tones, from light shades of blue all the way to the darkest ones out in the depths. The pine forest behind provides plenty of natural shade, excellent for resting when the sun is at its strongest. Besides being declared the most beautiful beach in Europe, the same magazine placed Dugi rat sixth in the world. Yes, you read that correctly. You do not need to go on some far-off journey to enjoy the beaches you drool over while browsing websites – it is right here, very close, on the Adriatic coast.

The beach is a proud holder of the Blue Flag. It is excellently equipped, nicely maintained and graced by natural beauty.

The headland, or rat, on which the beach sits, is special for the rocks that rise out of the sea. One of the rocks is special and can be found in almost every well-known photograph or postcard of this place.

This is a pebble beach, and it is very suitable for children’s play. On the beach you have plenty of content for children and adults. Still, the entry into the sea is not everywhere as gentle as it might be on some other beaches from our list. Despite that, children will enjoy themselves here just as much as their parents. Be sure to come and visit the most beautiful beach in Europe.

Besides the Forbes award, the beach in Brela has also won the most prestigious domestic tourism awards. We can mention the awards “Plavi cvijet” (Blue Flower) and “Sunčani cvijet” (Sunny Flower), awarded by Croatian Radiotelevision, the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the Croatian Tourist Board and the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County.

Briefly about the beach: a pebble family beach, with plenty of natural shade. In the sea you have a marked swimming zone, and you can reach the beach by car or by public transport. Benches for resting are set up along the beach, and you can treat your children to ice cream bought at the nearby stands. There are also fast-food restaurants, a café, and a restaurant with excellent Dalmatian recipes. There is a supermarket nearby, and on the beach you of course have showers, changing cabins and, something we would especially like to highlight, a lifeguard service. The kids will have a great time, while you can rest and sunbathe without a care.

Sipar Beach – Mošćenička Draga

The main features of this beach are clean sea, pebbles and shade. Sipar beach is located at the foot of Mount Učka, just 15 kilometres from Opatija. The beach itself is about 2 kilometres long, and has plenty of content for all types of guests.

Of course, there is quite a lot here for the youngest too. We will mention the content the beach is proud of, so let us go through it in order. We should certainly mention the promenade and the restaurant located right next to it.

Besides the promenade and the restaurant, Sipar beach offers its guests the option of renting sun loungers, parasols, scooters and pedal boats. It is appealing to children both because of the already mentioned entertainment in the water and because of its beauty.

Besides pebbles, the beach has a sandy base in some places. The accumulations of sand come from the flow of the nearby Draga stream. The Draga stream rises on the slopes of Učka, and carries fine grains of sand along with it. Pebbles still dominate, but they too will stir excitement in children and spur them on to play.

Veli žal in Mali Lošinj

To finish, we will present Veli žal beach. It is located in the town of Mali Lošinj, on the island of Lošinj.

This is yet another in the series of beaches for a seaside trip with children. The beach is made of fine gravel, has plenty of shallows and, of course, an exceptionally clean sea. Because of this it is ideal for a holiday with children.

Veli žal beach is located only 1 kilometre from the centre of Mali Lošinj. It is a proud holder of the Blue Flag, so we need not try too hard to describe its beauty and facilities. Still, we will write a few sentences about the beach and give you a photograph, so it is easier for you to decide to come.

Part of the beach is paved with stone slabs. The beach is surrounded by pine branches that provide excellent natural shade. Above it runs a promenade, from which there is an excellent view towards the blue colours of the Adriatic Sea. The beach has what is needed for a stay with children. Just to mention a few things, there is jet-skiing, banana-boat rides and other entertaining content.

For bathers there are changing cabins, a toilet and a lifeguard service available. We would especially like to highlight the ramp for people with disabilities. The entry into the sea is gentle, and near the shore the sea is shallow and suitable for people who swim poorly or not at all.

That is it, for now. We hope you will find a beach for yourself and your family, and that the holiday will pass in the best of memories and remain that way – well remembered. If you would like to suggest another beach for a holiday with children, feel free to do so and add to our post.
