The statue of St Nicholas the Traveller was erected in 1998. Its author is Mladen Mikulin, who created this bronze protector of Baška Voda.
St Nicholas the Traveller is the patron saint of seafarers, travellers, children and unmarried girls. With his raised hand, the bronze statue of St Nicholas blesses all who come to Baška Voda, all who travel, and so also all tourists. The feast of St Nicholas is celebrated on 6 December with a holy Mass and a procession along the riva, through the town. During the procession, local sea captains and sailors carry the statue of the saint, during which ships and sailors are blessed from the main pier.
