Kaštela is a town in Croatia, and the place itself consists of seven settlements joined together between Solin and Trogir.
The town of Kaštela stretches along the northern shore of the bay of the same name. It lies between the ancient towns of Split and Trogir, is protected by Mount Kozjak to the north and surrounded by Central Dalmatian islands to the south.

The varied Kaštela landscape was attractive even in ancient times and is recognisable for its gentle and peaceful surroundings. Fertile fields, plenty of sunshine and a pleasant climate contributed to the development of this place. Croats settled here as early as the seventh century and built their settlements on the slopes of Kozjak. Small preserved churches and remains of the seat of early Croatian rulers still bear witness to this today. Facing Turkish raids, the population built fortifications and palaces by the sea, and around them small stone towns of distinctive architecture later developed. Castles, or kaštela, became lasting features of the town of Kaštela, which merged into today's town.

The natural beauty of this place tells its own story; it can be described as a combination of pebble beaches by the sea and pine forests that spread a distinctive scent mixed with the salty air we breathe. Besides pines, the landscape is decorated with laurels, palms and tamarisks. The Resnik tourist settlement, with pavilions, bungalows and a full tourist offer, adjoins the sandy beaches of the western part of the bay.

Kaštela has a very rich selection of private apartments and rooms, which you can book. Most of them are close to the shore, along the promenade or the main road. The rest of the tourist offer is complete. In the central part of the town you will find a large number of restaurants with quality and varied cuisine. There are also many konobas, cafés and a market with fresh produce from local smallholders. The konobas are furnished with special details of the Mediterranean setting. Visit them and enjoy the food and the hospitality of your hosts.

Tourism in this place benefits from good connections. Kaštela is accessible by air, sea, rail and road. Besides this, the rich tourist offer attracts a large number of guests, and in that respect Kaštela is special. If you trust us and come to spend your summer holiday with us, you can choose among many offers arranged especially for our guests. We offer day excursions, cruises and swimming schools. Our guests can also attend a diving school or windsurfing. Sailing is an integral part of our tourist offer, and there are many other activities, too many to list.

Geographical position of Kaštela

Kaštela is located in central Dalmatia, close to Split. Kaštela is the name for seven smaller settlements along the coast of the Kaštela Bay. Kaštela consists of the places Štafilić, Novi, Stari, Lukšić, Kambelovac, Gomilica and Sućurac.

The place is only about ten kilometres from Trogir to the west and from Split to the east. It is excellently connected by major roads with this part of Dalmatia, but also with continental Croatia.

Economy of Kaštela

Throughout the history of this place, the main economic branches were agriculture and fishing. Today tourism also plays a significant role in this area, and it has blended especially well with the old customs and working habits of the locals. Fishing craftsmanship is still rooted in the genes of the locals, so the konobas and all other catering establishments will remind us of the skills of local fishermen.

Among the agricultural products characteristic of this region we should certainly mention wine and cherries, as well as some vegetable crops, especially lettuce and tomatoes, which ripen early in greenhouses and polytunnels thanks to favourable climatic conditions.

This event lasts from 1 July to 31 August, and more than 100 different events are staged in that period. Guests can enjoy classical and brass band concerts, concerts of women's and men's klapas, performances by folklore groups, theatre plays and traditional fishermen's festivals. Authentic home cooking offers excellent specialities, prepared especially according to the customs of this region. Besides food, you can taste fine wines or some strong drink from your hosts.

Kaštela is known as a place of rich gastronomic tradition, with an emphasis on the Mediterranean diet. Your plates will be full of fish specialities, vegetables and fruit, and to finish you can treat yourself to a cake of your choice. There are also meat specialities, most often pašticada or peka.

Good food goes with good wine. There is no problem there, because Kaštela wines are known around the world for their quality. Among them, Crljenak Kaštelanski stands out in particular; it is the ancestor of the well-known American Zinfandel and today it is the pride of Kaštela.
