Trogir is one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia, and a town of very rich history. Administratively it belongs to Split-Dalmatia County.
The town of Trogir has been writing its history since ancient times, when Greek colonists from the island of Vis settled this area in the 3rd century BC. It is one of the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic towns and is certainly worth seeing. The castle and the tower surrounded by the city walls form the core of Trogir.

If you enjoy exploring and admiring old buildings, Trogir Cathedral will catch your attention. It is also the most important cultural monument in Trogir, and its western portal was made by Master Radovan. The town itself is located on the coast of the Bay of Kaštela, on the small island of Trogir between Čiovo and the mainland. It is connected to the mainland by an old stone bridge.

This town will delight you with its monuments and its complete cultural and historical offer.

Entering the sacred buildings reveals some less and more well-known details from history. Trogir is one of the towns that is best visited with the help of a tourist guide, outside the main season and the tourist crowds.

Beaches in Trogir

Geographical location of the town

It lies in central Dalmatia, some 25 kilometres west of Split. The town has a favourable location, and it benefits most from being in the immediate vicinity of the largest Dalmatian centre, which makes it easy to use the various advantages of a big city.

The town itself lies in the Trogir Channel, one part on the coast and the other on the island of Čiovo.

Because of this diversity, Trogir is loved by many visitors. Even outside the summer season, Trogir has guests who enjoy its historic buildings, cultural monuments and the other offers of this town.

The old part of the town of Trogir has been included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

Tourist offer in Trogir

Trogir recorded the beginnings of its tourism in the 1930s. Already then tourists began to arrive from the former Czechoslovakia and other Central European countries. The town often hosted prominent figures, especially from culture and politics, such as George Bernard Shaw, or the English King Edward VIII accompanied by Lady Wallis Simpson.

Trogir was also visited by other prominent artists, both domestic and foreign.

Already at the very beginning of its tourist activity, Trogir published the first tourist guide to the town's sights. It was published in 1936. After the Second World War tourism in Trogir revived again, especially from the mid-1960s, when more significant accommodation capacities began to be built. Today's accommodation offer is really large, but you should always book in time because of the high level of interest.

Trogir is not a classic holiday resort that guests visit for the sun and sea. Rather, in the foreground of its tourist offer this town has its historical and cultural heritage.

Because of this, the accommodation capacities in the town itself are limited in number, but guests can book in the wider region. Apart from a couple of well-equipped hotels, most accommodation capacity is in the category of private accommodation. In the immediate vicinity of Trogir there are also three campsites with around 3000 places. To find accommodation, visit the link – private accommodation in Trogir.

Nautical tourism in Trogir

Trogir is recording great progress in nautical tourism, which is why two well-equipped, modern marinas have been built. The two Trogir marinas can accommodate up to 500 boats.

ACI Marina Trogir also owns its own fleet of sailing boats from 7 to 15 metres, which are rented throughout the year. Adventure tourism is on the rise, so alongside the classic forms of renting sports boats, parasailing, trawl fishing and one-day cruises, there is also a diving school known across Europe.

Diving schools in Trogir

Only some of the better-known diving schools in Trogir are: Trogir Diving Center and Medena Diving Center, as well as a few less well-known schools.

The variety of the coastline near Trogir attracts many divers. If you have not dived before, by enrolling in one of the diving schools you will have the opportunity to explore reefs and rich flora and fauna. After successful beginnings at the school, you will get the chance to explore underwater walls and reefs that go down to as deep as 40 metres.

This is certainly an interesting offer for those who want to learn something new. The programme you go through at the diving school is designed to world standards and can serve you well.
