Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park

Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park is a group of 44 islands and islets. It was declared a park in 2006 and is the youngest nature park in Croatia. It covers an area of 53 square kilometres of land and 143 square kilometres of sea surface. It consists of the island groups Lastovnjaci and Vrhovnjaci, and the island of Sušac. The unique beauty of the archipelago is the result of the sea and coast, which have influenced its flora and fauna. The park's rich diversity is also reflected in the 703 plant species on the archipelago, of which 53 are endangered. Among the animals, there are 141 species in this habitat, of which 71 are endangered species. The area of the park is home to the Lastovo lizard, Eleonora's falcon and some species of bats. The park is also known for its rich underwater world, full of corals, sponges and tunicates. The underwater world is home to lobsters, crabs, spiny lobsters and similar molluscs. In the park, you can also find fish species such as tuna, dentex and other blue fish, but also dolphins. The park's marine flora boasts as many as 238 species, such as photophilic algae, seagrasses and a very rare green alga.

In the park, that is, on the largest island, there are also several settlements where people live in a traditional way and in harmony with nature. In these settlements, many old little churches and houses have been preserved, as a monument to a calmer and slower life that has not disappeared from this region.
