The southern part of our coast has its charms, and we will travel around to present them to you as well as we can. Get to know some of the most interesting places on the southern part of the Adriatic coast.
On our journey we will visit the island of Brač, Makarska, Split, the island of Hvar and, of course, Dubrovnik.

If you have ever been on the Adriatic coast, you know that there are far more beautiful places than we have mentioned, but not all of them would fit into one post. We have decided to stop at the places mentioned and write a few words about each of them. Feel free to supplement our post or write a new one on a town where you have been. We look forward to that, and while we wait for that post, let us go ahead with our text.

Island of Brač – what to see, beaches on Brač

We will say right away that this is also the largest island in Dalmatia. It is one of the largest islands in the Adriatic Sea, and it lies between Split, the island of Šolta, Makarska and the island of Hvar.

Besides being known as a tourist destination, throughout history this island has also gained world fame for its white Brač stone. Indeed, many well-known buildings around the world were built from high-quality white stone quarried on Brač. Perhaps you did not know, but the White House in America was built from stone that came from Brač. Other well-known buildings include the Reichstag in Berlin and the Parliament in Vienna.

In today's times the islanders have turned to tourism and make their living on their island that way. If you set off to the island of Brač, you will certainly be greeted by a rich tourist offer. Nothing will be missing here, so let us write a few sentences on that subject.

In the summer months the island literally comes alive, and at every step you can see a special tourist bustle. The island's dynamics pick up in the first few summer days and last until the end of the good weather. Places such as Bol, Supetar, Milna and Sumartin live life to the full. These are typical Dalmatian island towns with a special offer of accommodation and catering facilities. If you want to book, be sure to look at apartments on the island of Brač – Bol, Supetar, Milna and Sumartin.

Since we are already on the island, we must mention the most popular beach on our coast. It is Zlatni rat beach, which lies near the town of Bol on Brač. People call it the paradise beach Zlatni rat. This is one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, pebble beaches on the Adriatic. The beach is distinctive in shape, lovely and very clean. Today it has become a recognisable symbol of the tourist offer in Croatia. It appears on almost every postcard or some other advertising medium. Its beauty has charmed many people around the world. It was formed by a natural process, the deposit of fine golden pebbles around an underwater reef. Because of this it took on its special shape, stretching like a little tongue up to 500 metres into the sea. Natural processes continue, which is why the very tip of the beach changes its shape over the year. The area around the beach is a protected natural area and a favourite place of surfers and other sports-minded guests. Here you can show your skills in the sea, but also calmly enjoy the shore with occasional swimming in the shallow water. The beach is only some 2 kilometres from Bol, which is why we mentioned it in this part of our post about Bol on Brač. You can reach the beach by car or on foot along the sea. The walk takes a pleasant 20 minutes. During the tourist season a small tourist train goes to the beach every half hour. There are also tourist boats that leave from the harbour in Bol.

The fun on the beach is top class and most suitable for young people, couples and people who enjoy music and nightlife. We look forward to your arrival.

Makarska – what to visit

The Makarska Riviera is well known far and wide, with the small town of the same name – Makarska. The whole riviera lies on the southern part of the Dalmatian coast, at the foot of Mount Biokovo. Makarska can boast very clean sea, as various world awards confirm.

As the main centre of the Makarska Riviera, this town has the largest number of guests who visit the region. Besides Makarska, guests regularly book in Brela, all the way to Gradac. We describe the Makarska Riviera as a pebble coast with long beaches behind which stretch mostly pine forests that give a special scent to the surrounding air. The sea and the sun are an indispensable detail of this area, just as is the case along the whole Adriatic coast.

Besides beautiful beaches bathed in blue and clean sea, Makarska is also adorned by the mountain massifs in its hinterland. They consist of the slopes of Biokovo, and there is also the protected Nature Park and the canyon of the wild river Cetina. Because of this terrain, excursion tours are an integral part of tourism in Makarska and the towns nearby. Lovers of adrenaline tourism enjoy rafting on the wild waters of the Cetina river, and there is also the possibility of organised full-day tours of the natural beauties of this area.

Since we are in Makarska and writing about the Makarska Riviera, there is no point in not mentioning Tučepi. This small town is known for the longest beach on the Makarska Riviera. The beach in Tučepi stretches for more than 3 kilometres along the coast, and it is graced by a nicely laid-out promenade hidden in the natural shade of a well-kept pine forest. Tučepi offers its guests a host of recreational activities. Above the beach there is a football pitch and a considerable number of tennis courts. There is also a larger number of catering facilities, with offers for all types of guests and all age groups. Anyone can come here and have a good time. The beaches are accessible for older people, for families with children and also for young people who want a good time. Couples will find romance, and there is wild fun in the night hours. In short, every place on the Makarska Riviera has a similar atmosphere – something for everyone. Book in Tučepi, if you have not already, and have a good time.

Split beaches, sights, what to see...

Split today is known as the main urban, cultural and transport centre of Dalmatia. It is connected with all the larger towns, by road and by sea routes, and to the outside world by very busy air routes as well.

It has significant historical and cultural moments, which enrich the offer of this town in that context too. Still, we came to look at the beaches, the accommodation offer in Split, and in that way we will present it.

The tourist offer of Split is rich and very interesting. A city of such dimensions has a lot to offer, and in particular we can mention the Split green market. Many say it is the heart of the city of Split. If you visit the Split green market you will see, and be left enchanted by, an abundance of different kinds of produce, flavours, scents and colours. Whoever has the opportunity should certainly drop in and enjoy a stroll through the market.

If you walk out of the city centre and head towards the coast, you will be met by a large number of Split beaches. The better-known beaches in Split alone are: Bene, Kašjuni, Kaštelet, Firule, Trstenik, Žnjan and the unmissable Bačvice beach.

The Split beaches are well filled, as befits a large city by the sea. Many beaches offer everything you could want, but there are also some a little farther away where you will not have maximum comfort – everything within arm's reach. Such beaches will suit people who want a dose of peace and quiet, while the others will be an excellent choice for people who love crowds, games and a full day of fun. Rather than writing about each beach separately, since we have already mentioned them, we suggest you read about them. The link for the beaches in Split is here...

From Split we go to Hvar

They say that Hvar is one of the sunniest islands in the Mediterranean. We will not argue otherwise, because it really was sunny the whole time we spent on it. Because of its large number of sunny days, the island of Hvar is for many people first on the list of places for their annual holiday. It has become a world-class island top destination.

It lies in central Dalmatia, between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula. Its eastern part of the coast seems to point towards Ploče, while to the west it wants to stretch out towards the open sea. The island is connected by ship and ferry lines, and you can also get there by tourist excursion boats. There is plenty to see on Hvar. The town of Hvar and the other towns on the island have numerous monuments of architecture and fine art. Lovers of history and art will surely enjoy them, as will people who appreciate outdoor events. During the season the islanders will delight you with a rich programme, and the island itself with its beauty and the beaches that stretch along its coast.

Of the towns and the larger and smaller settlements on the island, we would like to mention: Hvar, Jelsa, Stari Grad and Vrboska.

These are all places where you can book and enjoy the beach of your choice.

Dubrovnik – what to do

There is no need to introduce it specially. You have all heard about Dubrovnik many times, but still we will write a few sentences – since we are already here.

Dubrovnik lies at the very south of Croatia. It is unique for its history and rich heritage, which the people of Dubrovnik take special care of. Throughout history it was a centre of seafaring trade, and today it is among the most visited tourist destinations in the world.

It is one of the most attractive and best-known cities of the Mediterranean. The old part of the city is surrounded by Dubrovnik's city walls, almost 2 kilometres long, along with its towers and bastions.

For a long time Dubrovnik was an independent maritime republic. Today it is, by many accounts, the most beautiful city in the Republic of Croatia. It is known as a city of beautiful pebble beaches but also of wild southern Dalmatian cliffs. Dubrovnik will not leave anyone indifferent, no matter what time of year you come. The tourist season reaches its peak in the summer months, but many will also stroll through the streets of Dubrovnik in winter.

Although it is adorned by numerous luxury hotels, Dubrovnik offers a large number of private accommodation. Book in good time and visit one of the most beautiful tourist cities in the world.
