Bačvice Beach – Split

If someone has heard of Split, they have heard of Bačvice too. The reverse is also true. Bačvice is the main city beach, and the most famous beach in Split. If you have ever been to Bačvice, you have heard of, or perhaps even played, picigin. Besides being a popular gathering spot for tourists, this beach is often visited by local guys, and girls too, to play the most popular game in Split - after football, of course. Thanks to its particular shallows, Bačvice is well suited to this game, and that is how it became popular the world over. Even outside the season, in the shallow sea almost every day you can see picigin enthusiasts jumping as they catch the small ball. We will not explain the rules of the game now; you can easily find them yourself on the internet. Let's get back to the beach. Unlike other beaches in Split, Bačvice is made of fine sand. The beach has an exceptionally gentle slope towards the sea, and the sea is characterised by shallows far from the shore.
