The Church of the Holy Trinity is located in Split, in Split-Dalmatia County. For visitors it is interesting because it is the best-preserved example of Old Croatian architecture with a six-lobed ground plan.
It was built in the 8th or 9th century over the remains of an older building, of rubble stone, and the roof is covered with stone slabs. The central circular space is vaulted with a dome and surrounded by six semicircular apses, all but two of which are articulated on the outside by shallow niches. The three eastern apses form the sanctuary, which was once separated by an altar screen. The surviving fragments of the screen bear an inscription mentioning St Michael, who, alongside the Holy Trinity, is one of the church's titular saints. The church has for the most part retained its original structure, and the dome was restored in conservation work in 1971.
The church with its archaeological zone is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4680.
