Crikvine-Kaštelet, popularly known as Meštrović's Crikvine or Kaštilac, is located in Split. A visitor can see here a building in which a Renaissance kaštelet (small castle) was turned into a summer residence and studio of the best-known Croatian sculptor, along with a chapel with his crucifix.
The Renaissance-Baroque kaštelet was built around 1513 by the Venetian Capogrosso family, and because of ties with the family of the poet Kavanjin it has been known since 1709 also as Capogrosso-Kavanjin. At the beginning of the 20th century it was bought by the Split entrepreneur Eduard Žagar, and in 1939 he sold it to Ivan Meštrović. The western part was then considerably remodelled. According to the sculptor's concept, with the architect Harold Bilinić and the builder Marin Marasović, an atrium with a monumental porch and the Chapel of the Holy Cross were created. In it Meštrović placed a large wooden crucifix and a cycle of 28 wooden reliefs with scenes from the life of Christ.
The kaštelet is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4897.
