Rab is an island in our Adriatic, situated a little south of the island of Krk and east of the island of Cres.
On the island there is the town of the same name – the town of Rab, which is surrounded by medieval walls. There are more historic buildings there, and we will mention the Gothic Basilica of St. Mary, which is among the most visited sights in this town.
The whole island is surrounded by clean and clear sea, and by nature that gives it a special charm. The hospitality of the islanders has become recognisable among guests, who naturally appreciate it and come back year after year. This is a special island because of its contrasts. Namely, Rab can be described as an island which, on its north side, has a hilly massif and a barren landscape shaped by the bura wind, while on its southern side it is adorned with beautiful beaches of various textures. The southern coast of the island is decorated with pebble, sandy and rocky beaches. Here everyone can find a place to their liking.
The natural wealth of the island can be seen already on the first arrival. Despite the described bare karst on the northern side of the island, nature in its own way flourishes and enchants with its presence. The island has a rich past that reaches back to the time of the Illyrians, 360 years before Christ. Over the period of a turbulent history, many different rulers governed the island. Traces of history can still be seen in the town today, so we will mention its walls, churches and palaces. Besides the rich historical sights on Rab, you can also see various very interesting finds in the villages scattered across the island.
