The old harbour of Foša is an interesting detail of the city, with a story that speaks of Zadar's maritime trade with countries around the Mediterranean.
The harbour is interesting for several reasons, which is why tourists often visit it too. Right next to the Foša harbour stands the Land Gate (which we have already written about), and together they form a striking historical landmark.

The old town centre, on the north-western part of the peninsula, was separated from the rest of the peninsula by a dug moat, which was later filled in (towards the end of the 19th century), and on the remains of which the small harbour of Foša is situated.
Incidentally, the entire historic core on the peninsula has a very rich cultural and artistic heritage, and we can mention various finds of Greek pottery, which testify to the strong cultural ties between Zadar and southern Italy and Greece.
With the establishment of Roman rule, Zadar became an important economic centre that was urbanised according to Roman principles. Today this is attested to by the remains of the forum, a triumphal arch, an amphitheatre and old cemeteries, as well as a partially preserved aqueduct that carried water from Lake Vrana.
