If you find yourself in Zadar, whether in the summer season or at any other time of year, be sure to visit Narodni trg.
Narodni trg in Zadar was formed back in the Middle Ages as the Platea Magna – which means “great square”. Throughout history, and still today, this square has been the centre of Zadar's public life and the hub of city administration, with today's City Loggia – built in the 13th century – and the City Guard building erected in the same period.
The original name – Platea Magna – was later replaced by the name Gospodski trg (Piazza dei Signori), and after World War II today's name, Narodni trg, became established.
Besides the people of Zadar, hundreds of thousands of tourists enjoy sightseeing in this part of the city every year, whether just passing through or staying at a hotel or private accommodation in Zadar. There is no need to say much about tourism in this city, since we know that Zadar is among the world's most sought-after tourist destinations. Many choose to spend their summer holiday here, cooling off from the intense heat right in the Zadar part of the Adriatic. Many other buildings, landmarks and monuments are also well known, so the time spent sightseeing will pass before you even realise how quickly.

Narodni trg is dominated by the City Hall, built on the site of the old and unsightly town hall, which was demolished during the Italian administration of Zadar and rebuilt in 1934. The city's most famous promenade – Kalelarga – officially begins at Narodni trg. The square also serves its citizens for welcoming basketball players home, when their victories and trophies are celebrated. A magnificent welcome was also held here for the Zadar group Grupa Riva after their victory at Eurovision in 1989.
In one of the "I Love Croatia" campaigns organised by the Croatian National Tourist Board, Zadar's Narodni trg was also declared the most beautiful square in Croatia.
