Dubrovnik is a medieval city on the eastern, Croatian coast of the Adriatic, in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The historic core within the walls is one of the most completely preserved city centers on the Adriatic and also a UNESCO cultural site.
The city is a paradigmatic example of planned urban development from the 13th century, and most building took place in the 15th and 16th centuries, within the fortified walls and the system of fortifications. To this day it has retained its integrity, extent, and material and spiritual integrity. Despite destructive earthquakes and changes it preserves the matrix of the city, and in terms of styles it shows a harmonious coexistence of building from the Romanesque to the 20th century. The historic core with its immediate surroundings is a national and UNESCO asset, a masterpiece of urban, fortification, cultural-historical and civilizational values.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3818, and it is also inscribed on the UNESCO list.
