Daksa is the smallest of the Elaphite islands, northwest of the Gruž harbor, by Dubrovnik in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. For visitors it is interesting because on a tiny island it gathers a monastery, fortresses, a lighthouse and gardens.
The island is about 500 meters long, up to 200 meters wide, crescent-shaped, and extends from north to south. In the north are a small harbor and a boat shelter, and in the south, right by the shore, a fortress that encircles the church; to the northeast of it are the remains of the monastery. According to archival data, the Benedictines founded the church and monastery in 1281. After the fall of the Republic and the arrival of the French, the monks left, and the building became a fortress protecting the Gruž bay. In the middle of the island are gardens, and on the highest peak, 24 meters high, a tower with a chapel. Around the island are small chapels with the Stations of the Cross. At the northwestern end is an Austrian fortress, with a lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's house beside it.
