The Church of St Nicholas is located in the northeastern part of Dubrovnik's historic core, at the intersection of Prijeko and Zlatarska streets. Visitors to Dubrovnik can see here a building in which layers are lined up from the pre-Romanesque period to the 19th century.
It is a two-nave longitudinal building with regular orientation, whose space is divided by transverse arches into four parts and covered with barrel and groin vaults. The oldest part is the southern nave from the pre-Romanesque period, in which a vault with lesenes, a dome on a drum and part of the southern façade have been preserved. In the Gothic period the church was extended, the apse was removed and a northern nave was added. In 1607 it was extended to the west and received its present façade, and in 1834 a sacristy was added. A crypt, interlace stone ornamentation and parts of 14th-century wall painting have been preserved.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5980, and dates from the period from the 11th to the 17th century.
