The Bishop's Palace in Šibenik leans against the southern wall of the cathedral in the centre of the town. For visitors it is of interest because it shows how Gothic construction was built up in layers with Renaissance and later interventions.
It was built from the 14th to the 16th century, and in the 19th century it underwent numerous alterations. Its plan is U-shaped around a central courtyard, and its height comprises a ground floor, two floors and a high attic with a timber roof. The courtyard, with its wellhead, is articulated by Renaissance arcades on columns and a Renaissance portal, and the main façade of the courtyard is also Renaissance. On the western side are a Gothic triforium from the 14th century and a high relief of St Michael from the 15th century. The palace is built of stone and plastered on the outside, while the main representative façade was designed in the 19th century.
The Bishop's Palace is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2018. It belongs to the sacral and secular architectural heritage, and is located in Šibenik-Knin County.
