The Museum of the City of Kastela begins its story in 1988, when the first museum-gallery institution in the area of Kastela was founded.

Kaštela City Museum is a general and city museum located in the present-day City of Kaštela.

The Gallery, which was founded in 1988, (Studin Gallery) had a startup fund made up of a collection of sculptures by sculptor Marina Studin. In 1983, the collection was transferred from the then Museum of the Revolution in Split to the birthplace of Marina Studina, to the town of Kastel Novi. Subsequently, in 1992, the gallery gained new status and became the Kastela Local Museum.

The museum later established four collections:

Archaeological Collection

Cultural and Historical Collection

Ethnographic collection

Modern Art Collection

The Studin Gallery is part of the Modern Collection. The establishment of an archeological department is of great importance for the study of the history of this region, since the area is rich in archeological, ancient sites. The museum was initially located in the historic center of Kastel Novi in the Cippico Tower. It remained at this location until 1999, when it was moved to a new space and re-registered with the Kaštela City Museum. The new location of the museum has since been the Vitturi Castle in Kastel Luksic.

The activity of the museum is defined by the legislation in force in the Republic of Croatia. It is the function of the museum to systematically collect, preserve, restore and conserve, and to present and permanently protect museum material from the area under the jurisdiction of that museum.

The archaeological collection of the museum was founded in 1990, and systematic research is being carried out in several localities (Resnik-antique Sikuli, Bijaći-Stombrate, Mujina pećina, Biranj and Donje Krtine).

The cultural and historical collection consists of about 500 objects, and the collection of objects for this collection began in 1989.

The Ethnographic Collection was founded in 1990 and has more than 180 items that have been collected mainly through donations and redemption.

The Modern Art Collection includes many works of art (about 163 of them), of which 93 are paintings, 26 sculptures, 8 photographs, 36 graphics and drawings.

The Studin Gallery (sculptures) is run under the Modern Art Collection.

Today, the museum is working on digitizing the material, and the digitized content is organized through digital collections, which will be presented as such to the public.
