Labin is a hilltop town in Istria County, and its historic core is well suited for a walk through medieval streets, Renaissance and Baroque palaces, and churches. The old town fabric has been well preserved here.
The oldest core was in the Gorica quarter around the parish church. With the growth of the town the Dolica quarter arose, surrounded by walls in the 16th century, and in 1578 the town gate of St. Flor was built. Outside the walls a square with a loggia developed. In the dense fabric with its medieval street grid, Renaissance palaces stand out, among them the praetor's palace with a fontico and the Scampicchio palace, as well as Baroque ones: Battiala-Lazzarini, Franković-Vlačić, Manzin and Negri. There are also the 19th-century town theater and several medieval, Renaissance and Baroque churches, for example St. Justus, Sts. Cosmas and Damian, St. Stephen and the churches of the Assumption, the Nativity, and Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0038-1962.
