Historic Ensemble of the Settlement of Lovran

Lovran is a settlement on the Opatija Riviera, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and its historic core combines a medieval town and a row of country villas by the sea. It is interesting to visitors who like to stroll through narrow lanes.

The medieval core was once surrounded by a rampart, of which the southeastern town gate has been preserved. When the rampart lost its function, it was converted into residential houses. The old town is compact around the main square with the parish church and tower, is of irregular plan, with narrow passages and rows of houses with outside staircases. Outside the old core, at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, a series of country villas, pensions and hotels was built by the sea as a continuation of the Opatija Riviera.

The core is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2695.
