North of the village of Ložišća on the island of Brač, in the municipality of Milna, in a field beside the old road to Supetar, stands the Church of St Mary, known as Stomorica. It is a quiet place for those who follow the old paths of the island, and inside is kept a painting by a Venetian painter.
It has a single nave and a semicircular apse, is built of roughly dressed stone and is plastered. The roof has two slopes covered with stone slabs. Above the main entrance is a hanging arch, and against the south wall a buttress was added which once carried a bell gable. It is covered by a barrel vault with a transverse arch on a pair of pilasters. A masonry altar screen separates the sanctuary from the nave, and in the apse is a small window with a stone transenna in the shape of a cross. On the small wooden altar is a painting of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, painted by Bartol Bossi, a Venetian painter of the late 17th century.
The church is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5226. It is located in Split-Dalmatia County.
