Church of St John, Preko

The Church of St John is located in Preko on the island of Ugljan, in Zadar County. It is small and modest, but worth seeing for anyone interested in the early Romanesque style in Dalmatia.

The ground plan is an elongated rectangle. On the inside, three blind arches resting on corner corbels, with two half-columns, divide the side walls. On the outside the walls are treated in the Romanesque manner, with lesenes and hanging arcades. The apse is not original: today it is a rectangular projection with a semi-cylindrical vault. Inside is a late Gothic holy water stoup. By comparison with other buildings and by style, the church is placed in the early Romanesque period.

The church is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1563.
