Church of St Vitus, Dol

On the top of the hill west of Dol, in the municipality of Postira, lie the ruined remains of the church of St Vitus. The place is interesting to hikers and lovers of antiquities, and the church dates from the 13th century. It belongs to Split-Dalmatia County.

The church was single-nave, with a semicircular apse, and the interior was divided by a pair of pilasters. In the eastern bay a low bench runs along the foot of the walls. Built into the masonry base of the altar is an early Christian column with an acanthus-leaf capital, which once belonged to the biforate window of an unknown late antique church, so the site also preserves a trace of an older sacred building.

The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2602.
