The Roman Forum in Pula has been the central square since the time of the Roman colony of Pola, when all the important city functions were located there. Today's square has changed considerably, and the only thing remaining on the site is the Temple of Augustus, which bears witness to the square's distant past. The forum measured 80x30 metres, and three temples stood on the north side of the square. It was built in the first century BC, and the shore was filled in during its construction in order to gain more space.
