Ancient Working Landing Place, Biograd na Moru

In the sea off Biograd na Moru, at a depth of two to five metres, lie the remains of a large ancient landing place. It is interesting to enthusiasts of underwater archaeology because it shows the extent of Roman maritime life in the middle Adriatic.

The landing place belonged to an ancient building, a villa or salt works, whose remains are on the shore. It has the shape of a small tongue 76 metres long and 25 wide, oriented towards the southwest. It is built of large stone blocks, and the interior is filled with rubble. A cultural layer 30 to 40 centimetres thick has been identified around it. It is one of the largest working landing places of the middle Adriatic, and arose in the 1st century.

The site is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-32.
