Remains of an Ancient Landing Place, Biograd na Moru

Off Crvena Luka near Biograd na Moru lies the islet of Oštarije, also called Kumentić, beside which are the underwater remains of an ancient landing place. The place is interesting to divers and lovers of antiquities because it shows that today's islet was once part of the mainland.

In antiquity the islet was joined to the mainland and formed the southern part of a larger complex of a Roman country villa at the Kumenat location. It served as an occasional landing place. The remains are on the northwest side of the islet, at a depth of roughly one metre. The structure has the shape of the letter L, is 28 metres long and 10 wide. Fragments of ancient pottery were found around it, and finds also occur in the sand deposits around the underwater walls.

The remains are a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-30.
