Biograd na Moru in Zadar County was once the seat of the Croatian rulers, and the record of the Church of St Thomas recalls the town's rich medieval past. A visitor looking here for traces of the past should be told that the building can no longer be seen on the surface, but its significance for the history of the town is great.
The church belonged to a female Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century by the Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV. According to its ground plan it had three aisles, and at its eastern end three semicircular apses projected. With the later development of the town, modern construction took over the space: family houses were built over its foundations and an asphalt road was laid, so the remains are covered and invisible.
The site is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1738.
