Komiža is a town beside a bay in the west of the island of Vis, in Split-Dalmatia County. It offers visitors a walk between Mala and Vela banda and the narrow coastal strip of the harbor.
The first traces of the settlement date from the 15th century. The oldest part of the place is considered to be the small peninsula in Vela banda, which was defended by a castle. In the Baroque a network of narrow streets took shape there, with tall houses and courtyards hidden behind decorative portals. Mala banda arose at the beginning of the 16th century, opposite the small peninsula. The stylish buildings of this part from the 16th and 17th centuries, facing the sea with their gables and built right on the beach, have features of country-estate architecture. In the 19th century, at the junction of Mala and Vela banda, the Škor square and the waterfront arose.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5094.
