The remains of an early modern shipwreck lie in Labotovo bay, on the southern side of Cape Stupišće, in the town of Komiža, in Split-Dalmatia County. The site attracts for its cargo of anchors and Venetian ceramics.
The wreck was found and confirmed in 2014 and 2015, at a depth of 25 to 50 m. According to the data collected so far, the ship carried a cargo of iron anchors, at least 13 of them, and a larger number of whole or partly preserved ceramic bowls was also observed. Seven of the bowls were determined to have been made in the first half of the 15th century in the Veneto region, which points to a probable Venetian origin of the ship. It is an exceptionally rare and important discovery, whose study will add to knowledge of the typology of anchors and of maritime trade in the early modern period in the central and southern Adriatic.
The wreck is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6814.
