Oruda is an islet of the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, in the town of Mali Lošinj, and on it stand the ruins of the early Byzantine basilica of St. John. For visitors who like timeless places it is an interesting excursion into the 7th century.

The basilica is three-aisled with three apses. The central apse has been preserved with its arch-topped crown window, parts of the rear wall and the wall above the right row of arches of the central nave. The foundations of adjacent buildings can also be seen. The church is dated to the first half of the 7th century, and was built in connection with a fortress of a permanent naval guard on the nearby islet of Palacol, part of the Byzantine sea route through the Adriatic.

The zone is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2349.

Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence.
