Veli Lošinj, in the town of Mali Lošinj on the island of Lošinj in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, arose from the joining of three historical cores. It offers visitors a walk along stone alleys, a Baroque square by the sea and villas with parks.
Velo selo arose in the 13th or 14th century around the church of St. Nicholas, mentioned in 1384, and belongs to the scattered type of settlement. The second core developed as a compact fishing settlement of smaller stone houses along Ravenska bay. In the 17th century a settlement of sea captains took shape. The backbone is the square by the sea, of Baroque conception and harmonious proportions, which has special urban significance. Besides the Venetian Tower from the 15th century, the core has a large number of Baroque residential buildings and the church of St. Anthony Abbot from the 18th century, on the site of older churches from the 15th and 17th centuries. The early development of Lošinj tourism in the 19th century brought villas with parks that linked the three old cores into a whole.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0210-1969.
