In front of the entrance to Kastav's historic core, on Trg Matka Laginje, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, stands the late Gothic church of Sts. Fabian and Sebastian. For a visitor entering the old town it is the first sacred building and an important example of fresco painting with Glagolitic inscriptions.
The church was built and painted with frescoes in the 16th century. Of its original form the rectangular nave has been preserved. Over time numerous Glagolitic inscriptions were scratched over the frescoes. In the renovation of 1805, about which an inscription on the facade tells, the sanctuary was extended, the bell gable was altered, a Neoclassical loggia was added and the arrangement and shape of the openings changed. Soon a renovation of the interior followed, in which the original frescoes were damaged, and new ones were made, with figural and decorative motifs. The roof of the loggia rests on a profiled architrave.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1992.
