Veli Brgud is a village in the municipality of Matulji in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, on the slopes of Učka. It is interesting to visitors who want to see how village space was shaped alongside pastures, forest, fields and vineyards.
By its integration into the environment, the arrangement of space and its name, the village points to a medieval origin. From the core, called Ravnica, paths lead toward Rijeka, Šapjane and Žejane. The village was once an economic crossroads between the Učka area and Rijeka with its surroundings. The farm buildings show an older way of stone building with a plant-material roof and a characteristic raised gable. Residential building follows a broad development, from the medieval single-room single-storey house to the more complex building of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0221-1969.
