The underwater zone around the islands of Vis, Biševo, Brusnik and Svetac, in Split-Dalmatia County, is the area with the greatest concentration of historical and archaeological finds in the Adriatic. It is interesting to divers and to everyone drawn to maritime history.
Because of its favorable position, Vis had great historical significance, so its waters lie at the crossing of sailing routes and military operations, from prehistory to the end of the Second World War. In the zone there are already several underwater sites entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia. Given the great density of finds, the data collected by divers and fishermen, and the importance of the area in antiquity, the Middle Ages and the modern era, it can be reliably concluded that in this area there are also numerous hitherto unknown sites, individual finds or smaller groups.
The zone is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6496.
