Rogoznica is a coastal place in Šibenik-Knin County. It is interesting to a visitor for its almost urban structure by the sea, small stone houses and the history of settling refugees from the Turks.
Kopača was settled in 1390, and the islet of Kopara in 1518, by people fleeing from the Turks. The French built a fortress on Kopara in 1809, and the parish was founded in 1495. The settlement was conceived as a series of complexes along the shore. It ends with two buildings, a former customs house, joined by a porch over the main street. The place is dominated by a church with Baroque and neo-Gothic features and an eclectic bell tower. Southeast of the church is village architecture of one-, two- and a few three-storey houses by the sea, built of stone and covered with stone slabs. Living was at first in a narrow strip by the sea, and higher up were stables, wells and gardens.
A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RST-0858-1975.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
