Ethnozone Misućajnica, Vrbnik

The Misućajnica ethnozone is located near Vrbnik, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, on the island of Krk. A visitor here comes upon a rarely preserved pastoral landscape whose origin is linked to the period before the arrival of the Slavs.

By its terminology, layout and manner of use of space, the site bears witness to a pre-Slavic economy on Krk, and also to the wider palaeo-Mediterranean cultural circle. It is characterised by pastoral as well as farming structures: mošune and margari of dry stone that served for shelter, milking and shearing of sheep, a pond for watering livestock in the immediate vicinity, and threshing floors for threshing grain. Misućajnica is one of about a hundred farming locations on the Vrbnik karst, and also one of several hundred in the medieval area between Vrbnik, Punat and Baška.

The zone is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0398-1976.
