The hill of St Cross in Rijeka, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, overlooks the Kvarner waters and the Draga valley from the east. On its plateau lies an archaeological zone with a prehistoric hillfort settlement from the period between the 12th and 5th centuries BC.

The hillfort ditch with its entrance section has been identified. Across the whole surface of the plateau remains of Iron Age pottery production are conspicuous. The hillfort, together with the settlement at Pulac, gave impetus to the Liburnian settlement at the mouth of the Rječina.

A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2936. The hill offers a view of the Kvarner, and the prehistoric zone shows that this area was an important stronghold decades before the town.

Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
