Launching and Compressor Station of the Torpedo Factory, Rijeka

In Rijeka, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the torpedo launching station and the compressor station of the former Torpedo factory have been preserved. Industrial heritage of this kind is rare, and for visitors interested in the technical and maritime history of the city it offers an unusual insight into weapons production.

The building was constructed in two stages, in 1933 and 1935. It served for testing and trial launching of torpedoes from production. Each torpedo, before being fitted with a warhead, was tested three to four times, in order to obtain a certificate that it reliably held its direction and course. The compressor station filled the torpedoes with air. The complex remained in active use until the middle of the 1960s. The land lies on cadastral parcels in the municipalities of Zamet and Plase.

The complex is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3780.
