Mijanovići, or Mihanovići, is a hamlet in Žrnovnica, part of Split, beneath the cliffs of Mosor. A visitor will find it interesting as a traditional hamlet in which everything is within reach: houses, a gathering place and a shared press.
The hamlet lies on the edge of the former Poljica Republic. A stone-paved path leads through it, and the houses stand both above and below it. The gathering place is a widening among the houses, with a shared press for grapes and olives. The oldest houses are built of dry stone from larger pieces of rock, and the newer ones are two-storey buildings of uniform stone, with gabled wooden roofs covered with stone slabs. The windows have stone frames. Beside the houses are smoke kitchens and pojate (lean-to sheds) of dressed stone. The manure heap and pigsty of each household are deliberately placed away from the dwellings. The hamlet is linked to the 18th and 19th centuries.
The ensemble is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2593.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
