The historic core of Solin in Split-Dalmatia County is the site of ancient Salona, one of the best-known archaeological areas in Croatia. Here a visitor walks on the ground of a former Roman city.

In archaeological scholarship this protected area has been known as ancient Salona since the first investigations at the beginning of the 19th century. Excavations have proved that an ancient city existed within the city ramparts, most of which have been uncovered and are known. Outside the ramparts are several archaeological sites with basilical buildings, from the early Christian period until the fall of Salona. Among them, in the protected area, are Kapljuč, Manastirine and Marusinac.

The core is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RST-0651-1972.

Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
