Rural Ensemble of Klimno

Klimno is a small village right on the coast in the municipality of Dobrinj, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. It is regarded as a rare example of a village on Krk harmoniously fitted into sea and stone, and is therefore interesting to anyone who loves traditional architecture.

The settlement arose around the Romanesque little Church of St Clement from the 14th century. Some forty years ago the core consisted of interconnected stone two-storey houses with an outside staircase, a vaulted terrace and a canopy. The roofs are gabled and covered with channel tiles, the windows small, the hearths placed inside, and the chimneys strong and visible from outside. The oldest houses date from the 16th century. Alongside the residential complexes stand farm buildings built of dry stone, covered with plant material, of the mošuna type.

Klimno is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5331.
