On the northwest corner of the square in front of the school in Nerežišća, on the island of Brač, stands a stone flagpole base from the Venetian era. Visitors can see it as a reminder of the time when the seat of authority was here. The place belongs to the municipality of Nerežišća in Split-Dalmatia County.
On the flagpole base are the winged lion of St Mark and the year 1589. The square once held the rector's palace with a loggia and town clock, and some inscriptions and signs of Venetian rule are built into the present retaining wall in front of the school. On both sides are two coats of arms of Venetian rectors from the Morosini family, from 1530 and 1545, and a shallow relief of a lion. A large relief of the lion of St Mark from 1545, with an inscription warning people not to go to law, was built into the town loggia, and after restoration it is kept in the building of the Croatian Hall.
The flagpole base is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2975.
