In the mainland part of Trogir, at a crossroads in Malo polje, in Split-Dalmatia County, lie the ruins of the little church of St Stephen. The surroundings keep traces of the ancient division of land, so the place is interesting to those who follow the layers of the past.
At the corner of Put Mulina and Rimski put, roughly a metre above today's roads, stand the remains of a small single-nave church with a semicircular apse. The walls on the southeast side reach about three metres and are built in regular courses of roughly dressed stone in abundant binding material. Charters from the 13th century mention the church of St Stephen in the field beside the paths, and the historian Pavao Andreis places it at the Crvena zemlja site. More recent researchers recognise in it the oldest Franciscan place, from the 13th century, dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels.
The ruins are a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4444.
