In the harbour of the town of Vis, on the island of Vis, rises the Perasti Tower, a former defensive and residential building beside the family house. It is a good example of how settlers in Dalmatian ports secured their estates.
Vicko Perasti, a settler from the Bay of Kotor, had it built in 1617. Originally the tower had two floors and a square ground plan, with a cistern on the ground floor and the entrance on the first floor. At the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century two more floors were added, and the entrance was moved to the second floor and connected by a bridge to the house of the Perasti family. At the top is a flat terrace with two watchtowers placed diagonally. It is built of large hewn stone blocks, and the ground-floor walls are battered.
The tower is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5496.
