On the eastern part of the waterfront in Sutivan rises a Renaissance tower with a square ground plan. For many it is the first building they see when arriving in the harbour, and it gives an insight into how residents once protected themselves from dangers from the sea.
According to tradition, the tower was built on the shore at the end of the 16th century by the Marijanović family, descendants of the Poljica nobles the Dražoević. The memory of the fortress of that time lives on in the names "Pod Kaštil" and "Jankov dvor", after Captain Janko Marijanović. The ground floor narrows slightly towards the top and is built of large hewn blocks with loopholes shaped as a mandorla or a circle. The tower has two floors and a four-sided roof. In the 18th century larger windows were opened, and in the middle of the west façade a balcony on brackets was added. On the south side an entrance was cut through, and above it a sundial was made.
The monument is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5002.
