Opposite the land gate of old Trogir stands the Garagnin-Fanfogna Palace, a building that shows in one place how the town was built up over several centuries. A walk along its façade is a chance to see noble architecture and a Baroque landscaped courtyard.
The palace came into being through the joining of Romanesque and Gothic houses. In the second half of the 18th century the old and new houses of the Garagnin family were renovated, to a design by Ignacije Macanović, and so a single whole was created. At the western end of the complex a tower rises above a vaulted passage across the street. The two-storey stone building facing the northern town gate has a magnificent late Baroque portal with the family coat of arms on the ground floor. At the northeast corner of the block there is a cistern with a terrace, and the trapezoidal inner courtyard has preserved its original Baroque paving. The southern single-storey building with an external staircase once served for farm purposes, and today the town lapidarium operates in it.
The palace is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5065.
