Church of St Margaret, Dubrava

The Church of St Margaret in Dubrava, in Zagreb County, is of interest to visitors drawn to the medieval sacred architecture of northern Croatia. It is historically important because the bishops of Zagreb often stayed in it in the Middle Ages.

In essence it is a Gothic building from the end of the 15th century, given a Baroque makeover in 1720. It is among the rare medieval churches of this area that were originally built of unplastered brick. It consists of a rectangular nave and a narrower sanctuary with a sacristy. The Latin cross ground plan is created by the southern side chapel of the Holy Cross and the bell tower north of the nave. The entire church is covered with a Baroque cross vault. The furnishings date from the 18th and 19th centuries and from the beginning of the 20th century. The main wooden altar of St Margaret from 1918, with an altarpiece by Ivan Tišov, is a rare example of an altar designed in the spirit of the Secession.

The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2302.
