The Rijeka Skyscraper stands at the western end of the Korzo, on Jadranski Square in the centre of Rijeka. Because of its height and position it is a distinct architectural and urban accent in the city and one of the more interesting buildings through which to get to know modernism in Rijeka.
It was built from 1939 to 1942 to a design by the Trieste architect Umberto Nordio and is among the more significant buildings of Italian modernism in the city. It is 53 metres high, that is, it has a ground floor and 13 upper floors. The ground floor and the first six floors housed business premises, and above the sixth floor were apartments. On the south side there is an entrance hall with sounded frescoes by Carlo Sbisà, followed by a stairwell with a lift. All four façades are clad in pastel yellow brick, while the ground floor is clad in travertine.
The skyscraper is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4719.
