At the far west of the island of Korčula, in Potirna at a location called Mirje, lie the ruins of a wealthy Roman country villa (villa rustica) that was inhabited from the 1st to the 6th century. The walls are for the most part covered by later dry-stone construction. The most clearly distinguishable is a rectangular room that the builders converted into a water tank in a second phase.
In addition to the remains of the building, the excavations uncovered several graves. Among the movable finds, the most notable are parts of architectural sculpture, marble fragments with inscriptions, one of which mentions the building of a temple of the goddess Venus Pelagia, as well as remains of wall paintings, sarcophagi and a tomb, and a lot of pottery.
The Mirje archaeological site is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5111.
