Lighthouse, Sućuraj

The lighthouse in Sućuraj stands on the eastern cape of the island of Hvar. As early as 1874 a temporary light, six metres high, burned at this spot, set on a wooden structure beside the chapel of St Anthony the Abbot. The old lighthouse and the chapel were destroyed by German bombardment in 1943.

The new lighthouse was built from 1906 to 1908. The building is a single-storey structure with a high attic, with an L-shaped plan, and a square tower is attached to it. The form is simple, the walls of regular structure, with a few modest architectural ornaments; only the frames of the openings on the upper floor end in arches. It is counted among the more modest examples of industrial architecture, but for Sućuraj it has great cultural and historical significance.

The lighthouse is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4946.
